On Facebook’s 10th anniversary the social media network gave users the option to ‘Look Back,’ showing highlighted moments from their profile. For many, it was a fun trip down memory lane with much to reminiscent about. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg stated that the videos were well received by 200 million users. She then followed by saying, “It was amazing… It showed the power of the Facebook Brand,” at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, as reported by CNET. About half of the users who viewed their videos shared it with their friends.
Users may find this 10-year anniversary gift similar to 2012 and 2013 end of the “Year in Review.” The only difference, ‘Look Back’ is composed of all years the user has been with Facebook. It highlights the top moments of their activities on Facebook, showcasing the most liked photos and posts that they shared with others.
In 2012, Twitter did something similar. They partnered up with Vizify and presented “Your Year On Twitter,” videos with highlights of users tweets and their followers. Users can still edit and share their videos with others. It is definitely a fun and rewarding feature.
Since its inception in 2004, Facebook has gathered a following of 1.3 billion monthly active users. They have come out ahead of MySpace and and other competitors as one of the most popular and leading sites. At the same conference Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made comments about the next 10 years for the social media site. The vision is to focus on user experience and build media that are applicable for small and large audiences.
