On average there are 500 million tweets tweeted everyday. Many of these tweets are interactions between people and brands. In the last couple of years Twitter has become a business friendly platform. It is easy to use and can do wonders for brands.
The basic idea behind Twitter is that you are limited to 140 characters to say what you want. Though it may sound restrictive, the creative process and opportunities that have come out of Twitter are endless.
The best way to learn about something is to dive into it… so let’s get you started on Twitter!
1. Sign up
The first thing you will need to do is sign up for a twitter handle (account).
- Once you are on you should see a page that looks like the one below.
- Under “Full Name” type in the name of your business.
- Then type in your business email and create a password.
- Type in the name of your business.
- Click “create my account” to proceed.
Two tips for creating a username:
- If possible use the name of your business (if it’s short). This way it will be easy for others to identify and remember your twitter handle.
- If the name of your business is long, be creative but retain all that you can.
2. Building Your Timeline
You will see this page pop up, click “Next” to proceed.
Now a prompt will ask you to “Build your timeline” by following or adding people who are already on twitter. You can find people, brands, or companies by searching their distinctive twitter handle.
If you like, you can press the “skip” button located on the button left corner.
3. Add People You Know
Twitter makes it easy for you to connect with people you know you have an twitter handle already.
Simply press “search contacts” and indicate which email service you use. Twitter will ask for permission to access your email account for contacts. Once Twitter has access to your email account, Twitter will compose a list of people you know and ask if you would like to follow them.
By adding and following people you know, you will be connected to their account and know what they are tweeting about. Soon you will be able to interact with them through your tweets.
4. Add your company logo
Upload an image of your business logo. This will make it easy for others to identify your twitter handle in a line of other handles. As an example, we added the XB Beverages company logo.
Then add a small bio. A simple sentence about what your company does will suffice. See our example under Bio in the picture.
5. Email Confirmation
An email should have been sent to you with the email you register on twitter with. Make sure open it and press “Confirm you account now” to activate your twitter account.
Once you have confirmed your email, add friends and follow some people your page should look something like this.
