Tell Us About Your Background
I’m originally from Charleston, South Carolina, and then I moved to Charlotte about five years ago. I went to Queens University of Charlotte. I didn’t know what I wanted to do at first, but I landed on communications. Around my sophomore year of college I started getting more interested in business and marketing, so I added a marketing minor my sophomore year of college. Queens was really big on internships, so I’m very grateful for all the experience I had in college.
Postgrad, I landed an account manager role in Charlotte focused on social media. I liked the creative part of social media, but the data part really interested me. So, I looked for a more data-driven role, and that’s how I ended up here!
Why Did You Apply to MMM?
Definitely the fact that some of us are in Charlotte and that we’re based here. I really like the flexibility to be in the office and collaborate with everyone there, while also being able to lock in and focus at home. Another thing that caught my eye and attracted me to the role was MMM being voted one of the best places to work. Company culture is so important to me, and I truly have not had a company that has a culture like Market by Market with such supportive people.
In Your First Year as a Client Experience Manager, What’s Been the Most Rewarding Part of Your Role?
My role has changed so much since the beginning. I love the trajectory at which I was brought on into where I am now. It has helped set me up for so much more success in the role than I would’ve thought because I was able to learn all of the backend processes and how everything works behind the scenes, while also learning about SEO, how to be client-facing, and how to have those productive conversations about SEO and ROI. So, the most rewarding part would just be learning how to have those productive conversations with clients.
Reflecting on where I was a year ago in this space, I’m now having hour-long meetings with clients about SEO and their campaigns. It’s so cool to see how much everyone around me has helped me learn, supported me, and pushed me to lead those uncomfortable conversations, where the most growth occurs.
What Do You Look Forward to in Your Next Year at MMM?
I want to be someone dependable for our clients to go to and trust with their business. I want to do work that feels purposeful, no matter what. I want to continue to learn so I can keep doing purposeful work and serve our clients to the best of my ability. I would love to continue doing this work here because the culture is unmatched, and I’m starting to ramp up my client load.
I’m also getting comfortable with more than just dental. I’m breaking into the legal space. I have a few legal clients now, so I want to be a dependable resource for our clients and our team in all the industries we serve.
What Do You Like to Do When You’re Not Working?
I love being outside and in the sun. If I could live on a beach, I would. I also love going for walks and anything to do with mindfulness.
I’m a people person, so I love being with people, especially my friends and family. I also do a lot of advocacy work for Type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed in college, and I think I was given this for a reason, so I work to find the reason behind that and put purpose towards it. On the weekends, I do a lot of advocacy work with a Type 1 diabetes social company and host meetups in my area for Type 1 diabetics as well.
What’s Your Ideal 5-9 After Your 9-5?
It would probably start by going on a walk with a cup of tea to decompress and clear my head. Or if I had a yoga class booked, I would do that. I love doing movement after work to shift from the workday to personal time.
I also love doing some form of self-care, like taking a long shower or doing a face mask. Then, my boyfriend and I would cook dinner together, probably pasta! I’d probably hang out with my friends or watch a show. I always have to have a sweet treat, so I would have some chocolate and another cup of tea, then read and go to bed.
What Advice Do You Have for Anyone Who Wants to Go Into Client Experience Management?
I would say don’t be afraid to not have all the answers all the time. In reality, it’s okay that you don’t know everything. Also, don’t be scared to ask for help. I am working on my delegation skills myself because I would try to just do everything myself, but that’s not how teams work the best. All machines function better when all the parts work together.
