What’s Your Background?

I studied at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, where I double majored in finance and marketing. Through one of my marketing classes, I got an internship doing SEO for small businesses in the area, and I’ve been working in SEO ever since. I’ve worked with all kinds of companies, like dispensaries and phone companies, and now I’m here working with doctors and lawyers!

What Drew You to SEO?

I like the fast pace and variety. What initially drew me to SEO was the opportunity to work with businesses and make small changes to their website that actually make a positive impact on their businesses, lives, and families. Whether we’re working on small or large projects, seeing the direct impact on their bottom line has been the most rewarding.

What Has Been Your Favorite Part of Your Role at MMM So Far?

Working with our team and people from diverse backgrounds on the SEO team and all our teams collaborating together. I like that we have a big team with lots of resources and knowledge, with a small team feel. Everyone here has a job and a purpose, but we still have that camaraderie of a small team.

What Has Been the Biggest Challenge of Being an SEO Manager?

For all SEO companies in general, it’s working through the different changes. We often change how we’re working, and it either results in something that works well or we have to pivot and try something different. It’s often a part of the environment, and it’s like we’re trying to put wheels on a car while going a million miles an hour.

For MMM specifically, it has been unique and interesting to work with a lot of people overseas who have completely different cultures, backgrounds, and educations. I love having the ability to collaborate and work through different communications to bring value to our teams and clients.

What Are You Looking Forward to in Your Future at MMM?

I’m always looking to build my skill set working with clients and on the backend, so I would love the opportunity to continue growing. I’d also like to have a team of my own that I can train and pass down my knowledge to make Market My Market smarter, faster, and stronger.

How Do Explain the Complex Concepts of SEO to Clients and How Would You Train Others to Do the Same?

I find with clients that it always makes more sense to them when I show them the data. Everybody understands numbers, so it takes away the barrier and gives them an indicator that they’re doing well.

When training someone, I would say trust the data, whether it’s a data chain or a change from Google in the algorithm. There’s a reason we make the changes we do, and the data can support that. Simplifying that message to clients and going back to the numbers as a source of truth for whether a strategy worked or if you have to try something new.

How Do You Spend Your Time Outside of Work?

I’m married with an almost-four-year-old daughter and almost-two-year-old son, so my life revolves around them, which is the best thing ever. We love to go to Disney and the mountains. We live in a beautiful state, so I love doing pretty much anything outdoors and taking in the beauty of Colorado.

Do You Have Any Advice for Other Professionals Going Into SEO and Wanting to Accomplish What You Have?

Don’t be afraid to learn something and try it out. There are a lot of niches in SEO, like digital marketing, coding, and building websites, so dive into those or take courses to expand your knowledge. So much of our jobs in SEO are learning new things to implement, so always be willing to learn and keep learning.
