After earning her degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State, Kelly spent six years teaching before switching gears and thriving in retail leadership. Since joining, Kelly has planned and executed standout events, built lasting connections, and embraced the fast-paced, ever-changing nature of sales with confidence and curiosity.
Outside of work, Kelly’s early mornings are all about walks, coffee runs, and soaking up the Florida sun, often while on the hunt for the perfect seashell. A self-proclaimed reader and avid thrifter, she finds joy in the little things and loves capturing everyday moments through her film camera. Tell Us About Your Background Before Joining MMM as a Business Development Coordinator
“I grew up in Pennsylvania and went to Penn State University. I was studying human development and family studies, so I actually went into teaching when I graduated. I was a preschool teacher for about six years. I was getting a little burnt out from the teaching, so I got a job in retail at Lululemon and eventually became a manager there. Then, I got another job as an office manager at a local company here in Fort Lauderdale, but I was looking for something that could bring me out of my comfort zone. So, I truly just fell into my position at Market My Market.”
Do You Use Anything from Your Teaching Days in Your Current Role?
“Yes, I would say definitely being an active listener, and being patient even on the days you don’t feel like it. Being client-facing, sometimes you need to listen to them even if we might have all the answers. They need to get what they want and need off their chest. That’s something that I definitely held on to and carried over from teaching.”
What’s Been the Most Rewarding and Challenging Part of Your First Year at MMM?
“The most challenging part is that every day is different. So, you think your day is going to look one way, and it might look completely different. That has been a learning curve for me, especially coming from teaching. The most rewarding, I would say, is how much I’ve learned and helping put on events for either our clients or some of the referral partners I work with. Hearing the feedback from Guido, who usually attends the events, saying everyone mingled and got along, has been really rewarding. With each event, I’m learning more!”
What Are Your Goals for Your Future at MMM?
“I really enjoy reaching out to our referral partners and getting to meet them and know more about them. I like that we are creating this community with the referral partners. We’re helping them succeed, and they’re helping us succeed. Ultimately, we’re helping our clients create a community in their area. My growth could be towards managing more referral partners and growing into that vertical.”
Tell Us What You Like to Do When You’re Not Working
“I love reading a good psychological thriller! My perfect weekend would be getting up early, going for a walk, grabbing a coffee, going thrifting, and reading a book outside. Just doing my little hobbies, like taking pictures and collecting seashells.”
What Advice Do You Have for Other Professionals Who Want to Accomplish What You Have in Your Career?
“I thought I had these odd jobs, and I didn’t really know how they went together. But when I looked at it from a positive view, I realized you are always learning something at any job you have, no matter what. So, just take those things and try to see how you can apply them to your current job. Keep stacking those habits or stacking those lessons.
If you’re new to business development, just keep an open mind. Being on the sales team is busy, so try to do your best during working hours, and turn it off on the weekends and during your personal time.”
