As Business Development Assistant at Market My Market, Erin Lindberg spends her days building the relationships and referral partnerships that bring new clients through the door. It’s a role that combines strategy, communication, and plenty of moving parts, which is exactly what keeps her work interesting.
Her path to business development and marketing wasn’t necessarily the one she expected, but that’s part of what makes it worth telling. From career pivots and professional growth to the relationships she’s built along the way, Erin’s experience reminds us that the best opportunities don’t always come from following the most obvious path.
What’s Your Background?
I went to Coastal Carolina University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Sports Management. From there, I got an internship right out of college doing marketing for a legal marketing agency, which I was not expecting! I moved up in that role to marketing coordinator, but I realized that I wanted to get into the sales side of marketing, so I ended up here at Market My Market.
Describe Your Role as a Business Development Assistant
As the Business Development Assistant, I’m typically reaching out to prospective clients, nurturing partner relationships, jumping on discovery calls to help qualify leads, and understanding what practices need.
Another big part of my role is translating those conversations into structured deliverables. I create call notes, write follow-up emails, and put together demographics reports to move leads through the pipeline. I also do a fair amount of relationship building with referral partners, and a part of my focus is developing our referral pipelines, so we get warm introductions rather than reaching out and getting cold leads. We’re completely based on referrals, so we build these relationships with our partners, and they trust us to send practices over to us.
What Does a Typical Workday Look Like for You?
My role definitely keeps me on my toes, but a typical day would be following up with leads, touching base with referrals, and creating demographic reports. Whether someone isn’t sure where to open a practice and they want to increase the number of clients coming through the door, we can run a zip code analysis, a report on their current practice, or a report on the practice they want to buy.
What Has Been Your Favorite Aspect of Your Role So Far?
In my previous jobs, I wasn’t client-facing. I was more behind the scenes and not building those relationships myself. So my favorite part of my role is building these connections with our referral partners and gaining their confidence so they trust us enough to send us their clients. That’s been super rewarding!
What Are You Looking Forward to in Your Future at MMM?
Something I’m looking forward to, not just with my role, but with business development in general, is continuing to work on automation. We’ve already managed to automate a lot of our reporting process, which has been fun to figure out. With the amount of leads we’re getting now, it’s made small tasks go so much faster.
I’m also excited to go to Las Vegas in September with the Business Development team to get more leads and build more relationships.
What Do You Like to Do When You’re Not Working?
I love going to concerts and going on walks. We have a lot of cool parks around Charlotte! I also love the beach and the lake. I’m originally from Northern Virgina, and we have a lakehouse at Lake Anna, so I love wake surfing and tubing.
Describe Your Ideal Weekend
On Friday after work, I’m going to dinner with friends. On Saturday, I’ll get up bright and early to get bagels. Then, I’d probably go thrifting, go to the farmers’ market, and go to the lake. I love a lazy Sunday, so I can get ready to jump back into work on Monday!
Do You Have Any Advice for Other Young Professionals?
You don’t have to be so honed in on your major if you’re passionate about something else and want to venture off or do something completely different. Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, and keep your connections open because those relationships are everything.
