Not every marketing career starts where you’d expect, and Gabe Beebe, CX Director at Market My Market, is a perfect example of that. What began on a pre-med track eventually turned into a career fueled by creativity, strategy, and a genuine interest in helping businesses grow.
With a background that blends hands-on e-commerce experience, a passion for design, and a deep appreciation for data-driven marketing, Gabe brings a balanced perspective to client relationships. He’s just as focused on the numbers as he is on the people behind them, believing that real success comes from honest conversations, confident strategy, and results that actually impact a client’s day-to-day business.
What Is Your Background?
I got a degree in marketing, but I was originally on the pre-med track for oral/maxillofacial surgery. I realized that wasn’t for me, and I switched my major halfway through college to marketing. A few years into college, I worked as an Amazon third-party reseller, managing client accounts and their e-commerce stores. Then, I worked in customer service and a different marketing company for about five years before joining Market My Market.
What Drew You to Marketing/Account Management?
I love the creative side of marketing. I never envisioned myself in an account manager or client experience role, but I love graphic design, art, drawing, and painting, so I have a goal in the next year or two to get some certifications and take more courses in graphic design, web design, and web development.
In my previous role, I came to appreciate SEO, Google Ads, and seeing brands grow as well as the creative side of things, so that’s why I went into marketing.
What Does a Successful Client Relationship Look Like to You as a CX Director?
It’s a mix of many things, but a lot of it is about honesty, transparency, and being able to have tough conversations about business growth. We work with many clients who are new to their practice and starting from scratch. What makes a good relationship in a Client Experience Manager (CXM) role is the ability to speak confidently about growth and trajectory to build trust.
On our end, numbers can look great, but it doesn’t matter if our clients aren’t getting patients in seats. So being able to have candid discussions about data trends, new patient trends, and the confidence in our strategies helps us build long-lasting relationships with businesses.
Is There Anything You Wish Clients Knew About What Goes on Behind the Scenes at MMM?
I think our clients would appreciate seeing all the moving parts and how much actually goes into the research, planning, optimization, on-site work, and local work. They may also like to see all the tools we have now, like our apps we’re creating to improve our client experience, internal workflows, and account trends to help improve business performance more proactively.
Do You Have Any Goals for the CX Team?
I ultimately want the CX team to be more well-rounded in their understanding of marketing as a whole. I want to help them grow and train to understand the ins and outs of marketing landscapes and how we can better strategize on phone calls to have those tough conversations while proving value in the work we’re doing.
I’m also looking forward to this client-facing reporting dashboard we’re working on, where clients can see all things related to their campaign, make requests, sync their calendar, and make blog topic suggestions. That will help us have more efficiency in reporting on our end and give clients more transparency. At the end of the day, it’s their investment, so I want them to see how they’re performing.
How Do You Spend Your Time Outside of Work?
My wife’s a personal trainer, so we work out a lot. We have 2 young kids, so we spend a lot of time outside with them. I also referee soccer, so when I’m not behind a computer, I’m on a soccer field, refereeing everything from recreational youth to semi-professional and NCAA, and I go to national/international events when I’m invited and am able to make it work with our busy schedules. I’m working toward a national certification with hopes of achieving higher levels of certification in refereeing in the coming years.
I also bake and sell cheesecakes around holidays and birthdays, so it’s safe to say I stay busy when I’m not working! I think my favorite cake I’ve made is a Biscoff cake, but I’ve done a bunch of flavors like cookies and cream, salted caramel pecan, and chocolate espresso.
What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self Starting Your Career?
Take it one day at a time. I often get caught up in what’s coming up that week and what’s going to happen months from now. It easily overwhelms and stresses me out, and things can fall through the cracks. I try to fall back on taking everything one hour at a time, one meeting at a time, one day at a time; whatever works to manage it all mentally. I would also say that family is the most important thing in life, so as long as you have them and they’re taken care of, life is good, and everything else will figure itself out.
