Employee Spotlight: Ryan Klein — Pioneering New Paths in Digital Marketing

Meet Ryan Klein

Ryan Klein went to the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) and got his undergraduate degree in finance. He also earned his Masters in Computer Science at the University of Illinois. Fun fact: his first major was music, and he was initially inspired by his love of classical guitar in high school. Our CEO got his start in legal marketing with an in-house position, wearing multiple hats and focusing on the digital marketing of a South Florida personal injury law firm. During that time, he did projects with Paul—now of The Local Agency—and Cory—the former Director of SEO at MMM.

In his free time, Ryan Klein loves to play disc golf, hang with his puppy, and travel. One of his favorite things to do is go on client-facing trips, and he hopes to go on more of these adventures in the coming years. He’s proud that Market My Market is changing the landscape of marketing agencies and their relationships with clients, and he hopes to see further positive influences in MMM’s lifetime.

Q&A With Ryan

What Does a Typical Workday Look Like for You?

“I have something like 18 to 20 hours worth of meetings a week, mostly internal and sometimes external. That also includes podcasts and occasionally being on pitches. I still meet with certain clients, vendors, and agency owners to shoot the breeze and see what’s working and what’s not. But then there are impromptu ad hoc meetings. That might be maybe another three or five hours a week as well. 

“I like seeing how clients are doing with SEO. By nature, that’s my background. I like keeping up with SEO trends and how clients do at analytics. I like looking at rankings. I like looking at Local Falcon and have a general genuine interest in seeing how clients are doing. So yes, that makes up a lot of time as well.”

What Is Your Proudest Accomplishment at Market My Market?

“There are so many things I’m proud of — it’s hard to single out just one.

“One thing that’s going to be great—and it’s pretty imminent—is that the Legal Mastermind podcast will have its 250th episode sometime in February. That’s really cool. There’s a lot that goes into podcasts. There’s a lot of work and a lot of dedication and a lot of consistency there. So that’s definitely a big accomplishment.”

What Do You Enjoy Doing in Your Spare Time?

“I know I gave myself a challenge where I was going to read like 20 legal marketing books in two months. It was physically impossible, but it’s possible to finish by the end of the year.

“Disc golf is fun. I have to find more time to do it. Pinball is pretty cool. I still play guitar. I enjoy spending time with the pup and taking nice walks.

“I think that, maybe next year, we’ll ramp up more on travel and do more client-facing travel in general. I’ve always liked doing that. In 2018, before COVID, I had about 50 flights that year, so 25 round trips. And it was what I enjoyed doing. It fits in with my personality, so I enjoy all that.”

Where Do You See Yourself and Market My Market in Five Years?

“Market My Market has definitely, in many ways, reinvented what people see as being their partner for digital marketing. By then, we’ll have a significant impact on what people perceive as their relationship with their agency. I think we’re well on our way to remapping what people will think when they have a relationship with their agency. We want to have transformative, instead of transactional, relationships.

When people say that their relationship with their account management is very organic, that’s a big claim. And it’s just much different from what they’re used to. So I’d say in five years, we’re not thinking about where we are in the industry but about our impact on the industry as a whole. We’ve come a long way in the past five years, so five years from now, I expect other agencies to emulate many things we’ve been doing.”
